Go and sin no more

Go And Sin No More

Go and sin no more

John 8: 10-11 – Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, ‘where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I, Go and sin no more.”

Beloved, are you burdened and weighed down by your own sin? Has an addiction enslaved you, crippling you from walking in freedom?

In the story of the woman caught in adultery, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees put her in front of the crowd and accused her, condemning her to be stoned to death. They wanted to trap Jesus into saying something against the law of Moses that could be used against Him since they knew Him to be compassionate and merciful. And the Law of Moses said that such a woman should be stoned.

Jesus’ response to the accusers was “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” -John 8:7

And all the accusers left one by one until no one was left. Jesus then asks the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”

Beloved, are you one of your own accusers? Are you telling yourself that you need to be stoned? Well, you do not have that right because you are not without sin. Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone. Often it is self-condemnation that keeps you in bondage.

As a Christian, it is our genuine desire to live free from sin. That is our new nature. We were not like that before. So, when we feel miserable because of our sin, it is evidence that we belong to Christ.

The only one who has the right to stone you is Jesus. He is the one who has never sinned. And He chose to forgive you by taking your sin upon Himself and bearing the punishment for your sin. He says I don’t condemn you. Now go and sin no more.

It is the realization of being forgiven that empowers you to go and sin no more. Guilt and condemnation only feed sin and cause you to remain in bondage. Accept the forgiveness of the Lord and accept the Lordship of Jesus over your life. It’s His grace and mercy that you need to go and sin no more. It is not a 5 step plan or a 30-day program you need, but His merciful offer of “no condemnation”.  Jesus’ grace and mercy is not a license to sin, but a powerful weapon to go and sin no more.

Beloved, let us stop being our own accusers. We don’t qualify because none of us are without sin. Only those without sin can throw the first stone. But we CAN receive Jesus’ forgiveness and go and sin no more.
